But I gotta be honest with you – I have a personal bias AGAINST resolutions. I think we tend to pile them on and burn out quickly. Instead of creating a laundry list of all the ways your life will be perfect in the new year, think about what will be the BEST thing for you to focus on, that will improve your life, your business, and your levels of peace, you and fun.

How this challenge is different: in 7 days we will examine all of these things and develop a specific action plan for each person. Then we’ll keep our Facebook group open so that we can continue to support one another.

The Dangers of Living on Auto-Pilot

Life comes at you fast. It can be full of ups and downs. There’s some good and some bad. And sometimes you end up just plain tired – stressed and overwhelmed. And you might want something to just go on predictably for a change, right? Maybe? Or maybe not so much.

How’s your life going? Do you feel like you’re on top of your game and things are going well? Or are you starting to feel that nagging sensation that there’s got to be more? Or do you  feel like it’s time for a change – but you might be a little bit afraid or a lot afraid of doing what it needs to be done in order to create that change? I feel you. I’ve been there. Many times.

Today I just want to encourage you about not getting lulled into the complacency of autopilot. Because here’s the tragedy. The tragedy is that many, many people live their lives on autopilot. They wake up, get dressed, go to work or go about their days – business as usual. One day blends into the next and blends into the next and you look up in five years have passed. You think about all those dreams and all those ambitions that you had once upon a time. You might start to think maybe it’s too late.

But let me say something to you loud and clear! It is NEVER TOO LATE!

It’s never too late to try something new.

It’s never too late to pursue your passion.

It’s never too late to say yes to your soul.

If you are ready to say yes to your soul and to pursue something that has been tugging at your heart for a very long time – IT IS TIME TO START.

It’s time to take a risk.

The Value of Taking A Break

Hi friends! I pray all is well in your world, and that 2016 is starting out great for you. For those of us in the east coast, we were forced to slow down in the wake of #Blizzard2016. If you were affected, I hope your life is returning to normal.

Here’s a few things I was reminded of during the break:

  1. Family is priceless. Hold those you love close and enjoy time together when unusual opportunities present themselves. Lean into it and embrace the gift of fellowship.
  2. It’s good to get a break from the routine. I don’t know about you, but after the holidays, I charged head first into the New Year, returning to the fast-burning lifestyle that I realized was not good for me in 2015. Having time off gave me a break from the routine and helped me to reexamine this unhealthy practice.
  3. Take care of you – mind, body & spirit. I heard from a few friends how this was a great opportunity to be forced to slow down. People took naps, and I pushed myself on my fitness challenge – adding PLANKING to the mix. I pulled out my adult coloring books for a bit of fun, (any other coloring enthusiasts out there??) and watched some movies with the kids. Another friend caught up on her Bible studies.
The question is, why does it take a weather emergency for us to do these things?Because these are things we should be doing anyway.

What’s Your Why?

Here’s some food for thought, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday.

I really want you to spend some time thinking about your life – what you are happy and proud of, and what you’d like to do differently.

Dr. King Knew His WHY…

Dr. King left a huge legacy. But he was not trying to be famous. He was trying to do what’s right. He stood up for not only racial justice, but peace and humanity. He knew his Why. He was crystal clear about what was at stake. And he was willing to go to jail, to lead others into harm’s way in the name of justice, and ultimately he gave his life for the cause.

Now, before you roll your eyes at me, I fully understand that most of us will not lead lives of this magnitude. On the other hand, many of us go through life on auto-pilot – getting pulled along life by random events. Sometimes we persist on a path that is not good for us – but we are too busy pushing to achieve a goal that is not one that we care about.

The truth of the matter is this – there are ordinary people who inspire us every day. You don’t have to be Dr. King, Steve Jobs or Mother Teresa to live an inspired life. Take a moment if you will and think about your life. Maybe even go back to your childhood. I bet you can think of someone who you admire. Maybe it’s a teacher, a doctor or nurse who is particularly well suited to their job. It can be someone who is in a service industry who goes above and beyond and always has something positive to say. They find a way to brighten your day at JUST the right time – when you needed a smile or a word of encouragement.

Time for some introspection…

What about you? To be clear, I’m not asking how inspirational you are. But I want you to consider how your life is spent.

  1. What’s most important to you? Is it apparent to the people around you? Some people claim that family is important, but spend so much time working that their children or significant others don’t get adequate quality time. Of course, sometimes you simply must put in the hours to make sure that your basic needs are met. But there are small choices we can make to honor those we care about.
  2. How do you spend your time and resources? Because truthfully – how we spend our days is how we spend our lives. Are you enjoying the ride? Are you taking care of yourself and making sure you take time for yourself and your loved ones? Are you using your vacation time and taking time to relax and rejuvenate?
  3. Is there something you want to do, experience or accomplish that you’ve been putting off until “the time is right”? Here’s the deal… life ticks by minute by minute, day by day. There is never a signal for “the right time”. If it lights you up and makes you feel more alive – make room in your life for it! If there is something that you want to contribute –find a way to make the time. Because for some of us “someday” never arrives. And let’s face it… at the end of our lives no one ever wishes they had worked more.

Please take a few moments to take stock of your life – and consider taking action on whatever it is that needs attention… your loved ones, that dream you had put on hold, or re-prioritizing your time and your health.

I say it all the time…. LIFE IS NOW. You owe it to yourself to make the most of it!

A New Year and a Fresh Start

I’m proud of myself! Today I finished day 5 of my January fitness challenge – a 40 minute yoga session. The reason I’m excited is because last year I completely went off the wagon for my health and fitness goals – and have 10 extra pounds to show for it! Also, as the stress was mounting at work and I was putting more and more pressure on myself for my business, I got completely out of balance. I worked ALL THE TIME. As a coach I know how important it is to live a balanced life but I was so driven and focused on realizing my dream that I began forgoing some of the things that are important to me.

So as I was contemplating my goals for 2016, I decided to do something different to kick off the year. I usually set my health goals with a very prescriptive diet and a weight loss goal. It just didn’t feel right this time around. So I decided to be more action-oriented, and to set goals a month at a time. So instead of starting the year out at the gym like many people, I decided to set a challenge for myself to get some form of exercise in each day of the month – at a minimum of 15 minutes.

The first 3 days were simple because it was still the holiday weekend. I knew that I would have to up my commitment when I got to the workweek. Monday – first day back at the office, I managed a 15 minute walk in the afternoon, so that was good. Today was more of a challenge. Lots of meetings at work. When it got to 8 pm on my way home, I decided I couldn’t miss a day – so I put one of my Turbofire CDs on when I got home. Triumph! Getting through this day deepened my resolve to not let anything get in my way to complete my challenge!

Here are a few lessons I learned.

  1. It’s never too late to get a fresh start. Sometimes we get caught up and need to give ourselves another chance. What do you need to push the ‘reset’ button on?
  2. Balance is crucial to our health and well-being. I allowed myself to get too far out of balance. And while I love my business, it’s not good to forego your health in pursuit of work. I am glad that I decided to make space in my life for what’s important

Do You Have the Holiday Blues?

… Acknowledging and Combating the Holiday Blues

Hello friends,

I pray that you are enjoying the holiday season. But today’s post is directed at people who are not having such a good time right now. The holiday blues is very real. There are people who are suffering right now. Some of us have lost love ones and are having a hard time feeling happy about anything. Some are dealing with other losses like divorce or broken relationships and are working to pick up the pieces. And there are people who are generally suffering from the winter blues (Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD), which is serious condition that plagues many in our society.

If you fit into any of these categories, today’s message is just for you. I encourage you to do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself. Some well-intentioned people will try to pressure you into joining in the festivities even if you don’t feel like it. It’s okay to opt out if you’re just not in the mood. However, I do encourage you to find other positive ways to take care of yourself. Here are some ideas:

  • Do something nice for yourself! Go to a spa. Get a manicure or pedicure. If those aren’t in your budget draw a luxurious scented bubble bath and soak your cares away. Take a Mental Health Day from work and watch movies all day or cuddle in bed with your favorite book or a stack of magazines any chocolates! The point here is that you do have choices – and there are lots of ways to take care of yourself, even if it doesn’t mean immersing yourself in the fullness of the holiday spirit.
  • Connect, give and/or serve. It’s a well-known fact that giving of our time or resources and our love and support does volume for lifting our own spirit. Charities find themselves overwhelmed with people who are in the giving and volunteering spirit this time of year. So if you actually have a hard time finding a big place to volunteer right now, find some small ways to contribute. If there is someone in your neighborhood or church community who is having a hard time, reach out to them. Drop a card or a meal or treat, even if it’s something that you didn’t make yourself. Call up someone in your family or a friend who lives far away that you really care about and who you know just hearing their voice would lift your spirits (and vice-versa!)
  • Change your surroundings. Sometimes getting away from it all is a big help. You can do this solo or you can in this a travel buddy to go with you. When I was going through my divorce I would take drives to a nearby cities near water, which is one of the things that soothes my spirit. Annapolis is one of my favorite spots. Even if I didn’t have the funds to go overnight I would take a day and drive there. I’d walk around and maybe have a nice meal and window shop. Maybe there are some friends or relatives that live close enough for you to drive to and spend a day or two with even, if it’s not on the actual holiday.
  • Above all – give yourself permission to feel the way you’re feeling. It’s okay to say no. It’s okay to not feel in the mood to attend the various functions taking place. It’s not okay to isolate yourself and just wallow in the negative feelings. So whatever you choose to do, give yourself permission to make that choice. Because after everything is said and done, you are in charge of your life, and you don’t have to please other people with the choices that you make.

On New Beginnings

Today is a great day! It’s December and along with the holidays, a NEW YEAR is just around the corner. I have a confession – as a coach this is one of my favorite times of the year! I love the ‘new car smell’ of possibility in the air. I love the fact that many of us are more optimistic than any other time of the year.

BUT….  Here’s the challenge – how to STAY in forward motion? How to KEEP that sense of “I can conquer the world” that we have on January 1? 

That’s what I see as one of my jobs as a coach -to help my clients stay in forward motion, to stay motivated when the going gets tough, and believe in their ability to overcome the challenges that will inevitably arise.

Today, though, I want to introduce my new initiative to you.

Drumroll please! I am SUPER EXCITED to launch the

Right now we are in ‘soft launch’ mode, and this site is our home while I am rolling things out. Here’s the back story. I’ve been coaching since 2009, and have experienced some modest success. I have continued to add skills and milestones along the way, but my brand identity has been a bit “vanilla”  (I’m more of a strawberry cheesecake or chunky monkey kinda girl, you feel me??)

The year of 2015 has been a huge transitional year for me as a coach, and I have invested in building my capabilities as an entrepreneur, as well as sales and marketing.  This initiative came to me a couple months ago, and I’ve been starting to put the building blocks together. I decided it’s TIME to put my own  BUTT ON THE LINE (this is HUGE for us coaches!) and start sharing the name, while I am building the infrastructure.

You see, once you start telling people your plans, there is no turning back. So HERE WE ARE. I hope you will join me on the journey!
